SAN FRANCISCO, CA, July 12th, 2005
August 20 Event in La Raza Park to Include Some of Bay Area’s Top Musical Talent
On Saturday, August 20,2005 NextArts is putting on a benefit concert in the Mission District of San Francisco at La Raza Park, called Sock it to me: Acoustic in La Raza Park! “Collecting socks and underwear for San Francisco’s homeless.” The event will take place from noon to 6 p.m.
The park, formerly Potrero del Sol Park, is located near the corner of 25th & Potrero in San Francisco. The event will feature acoustic performances on the main stage by Bay area musical artists LUCE, Garrin Benfield, The Heather Combs Band, Corrine West, The Bittersweets, The San Carlos Project, plus some very special guests. All of the artists are currently being spun on radio stations KFOG and Alice. In addition, art will be displayed by ARTwork, a 120-member arts organization.
Items collected will be distributed to the homeless. Organizers are asking people to go through their sock drawer and if they find anything with a tag, to bring it to the event. If they don't have anything, then they are being asked to pick something up at the store on the way in.
Also, over 30 transitional homeless will receive a living wage producing the event. NextArts has produced other successful events including International Women’s Day (2002), Rock the Vote (2003), and A Miracle on Market Street (2004).
