Our History

Established in 1998

NextArts began as a community organization on a December evening in 1998 with our very first nighttime concert at San Francisco's Union Square. Under the warm glow of amber lights we cast our first performance while a Christmas tree and Menorah glistened in the background.

Our idea is simple: Instead of charging admission to civic and cultural events we ask you to bring "something."

Currently we collect socks and underwear: "Sock it to me Concerts" and school supplies "The Concerts for Kids." All items collected must be new, with tag still attached. Through your support, we have collected thousands of items at our events and given them to homeless programs and schools throughout the Bay Area. Recipients include, Mother Brown's Kitchen, Excelsior Middle School, Buena Vista Elementary School, Providence Foundation, and Malcolm X Elementary School.
